I Made a Promise to Myself at 45. This Newsletter Is Me Keeping It.
I was 45, in the middle of building a demanding employee benefits advisory business, when cancer stopped me cold.
I won’t sugarcoat it — it was a hard road. But somewhere in the middle of treatment, I made myself a promise: if I make it through this, I’m going to do everything in my power to give my body a fighting chance.
I kept that promise.
I hired a personal health coach. I overhauled my diet. I committed to my health and body in a way I never had before, even as a lifelong athlete. And then I just kept going — through my 50s, through selling my business in 2020 just before the world turned upside down, and now, at 69, into the most focused and intentional chapter of my health journey yet.
These days, in my late 60s, I still race in granfondo cycling events around the world. I’m also working toward my National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) accreditation, specializing in corrective exercise for active seniors. And I’m more convinced than ever that how we age is largely — not entirely, but largely — within our control.
That’s why I started this newsletter.
So who is this for?
It’s for the late boomers and beyond who finally have the time to be a little selfish about their health. The ones who aren’t ready to slow down. The ones who want to stay strong, mobile, and fully alive well into their 80s — and who suspect that the conventional wisdom about aging is selling us short.
I write from experience, from research, and from the road — literally. My posts are a mix of personal essays, practical guides, and evidence-based articles on fitness, nutrition, and longevity. No hype. No gimmicks. Just honest information from someone who’s living it alongside you.
A little more about me:
I’m Greg Pallone. I spent decades as a competitive cyclist and a financial advisor — two pursuits that taught me a lot about discipline, long-term thinking, and the cost of ignoring warning signs. I’m based in my 60s and proud of it. I believe that this decade and the ones that follow can be the strongest of our lives if we approach them with the right tools and mindset.
I’m glad you’re here. Really.
Hit subscribe, leave a comment, and tell me where you are in your own journey. I’d love to know.
— Greg
